First Baptist Church is a contemporary Christian body of
believers located at 1399 South Jefferson Ave. in Defiance,
Ohio. Our multi-purpose facility is easily accessed off
State Route 66 at the corner of Jefferson Ave. and Greenler Rd.

We realize that a first visit to any church can be a little
overwhelming, but feel free to come and meet us after a service!
We look forward to meeting you! Below we have put together
the typical experience you will have at FBC.
Whenever someone encounters FBC, we want them to walk away
understanding this is not the usual “church experience.”
We don’t seek to be different for difference sake. We want
them to truly encounter God in their lives. It is bizarre,
but true, that most people cannot truly experience God in the
confines of the average church. Rather than pointing
people to an exalted Christ, they are pushed away through
irrelevance, ineptness, or just plain boredom. So many
man-made barriers have been erected that prohibit people who
desperately need to see Him, from seeing Him. Traditions
have replaced truth, personal preferences have replaced passion
for the lost, and personal comforts have replaced authentic
connections.
We want them to, first of all, feel grace. Most people have
never actually experienced God’s grace in their lives. It
is an overwhelming feeling the first time you encounter this
inexplicable passion that He has shown to us. We want them
to know that He is awesome and worth spending our lives getting
to know. We want people walking out with ‘the wow factor.’
‘Wow, those people sure were warm and genuinely friendly.’ ‘Wow,
church was actually fun!’ ‘Wow, that was helpful, practical, and
useful.’ But ultimately… “WOW, WHAT A
GOD!”
We have said repeatedly and it needs to be repeated again: We
define success as “one changed life at a time.” As the
stories roll in (one at a time) of the God encounters, we know
we are making progress. As we add up the God moments among
us, we know we are making progress. As we hear of someone
far from God crossing that line of surrender to Jesus, we know
we are making progress. As we hear of a Christ follower
exchanging temporary values for eternal values, we know we are
making progress. As we see the light bulb come on and a
churched person moves to authentic connections, we know we are
making progress. We didn’t turn this around in a year, and
we won’t build it in a year… but we are making progress!
This is His church and His vision. We will always seek
after Him and be a people after His heart.
